Cyber Attack Number 13/15: Cryptojacking Attacks

This is an interesting one! Whilst a lot of the buzz around Cryptocurrency has died down in recent times, the threat of this sort of attack is still very real. Cryptojacking is when a user is infected via an internet web browser, or installed malware on their computer, to make their computer part of a Crypto mining network.

Example: You visit a website infected by malicious code. A pop up displays asking you something random like "Are you an awesome human being?" You click 'Yes', because of course you are. This installs a malicious program on your computer, and your computer's resources are now being used to help mine Cryptocurrency.

Risk Mitigation: Whilst I've often said, Antivirus software will never protect you 100%, it still helps. Some even have safe web scanning, which is a useful feature. The other thing to always ensure, as I've said many times, is that all software on your computer is always kept up to date, ensuring any known vulnerabilities are patched.
