Why are we excited you say? This episode was particularly special to the team at Infinite Edge as host Abe Thompson interviewed our leader, Martin Haak about his experience and drive to bring the importance of Cyber Security to the forefront of discussions when setting up business networks.

In it Martin talks about the psychology behind Cybersecurity, and why fear mongering has had the opposite desired effect.

Fear is a powerful motivator, but in this case, the fear often leads to shame, and business owners or executives are overwhelmed, and just don’t know where to start and who to turn to.

‘The majority of [businesses] don’t understand what their requirements are or what it even is. There’s a lot of fear. They don’t really do enough about it and again, they think ‘Oh, it’s a tech problem’ and their eyes glaze over and they don’t want to know like they do with most IT things and they just go about their business.’

One of the most common responses we get from organisations is that their IT is across the security stuff. This just tells us that they are definitely not doing enough, nor are aware about what is required to have an effective Cybersecurity approach.

Cybersecurity isn’t just an IT problem. It’s also largely a human problem.

Both the organisation and their IT need to be constantly working together. In fact, the most effective approach is if a champion or champions are driving it from within, rather than their IT.

There are no quick fixes or silver bullets. You simply can’t fully protect yourself from a hack or a data breach, so it’s important to prepare and plan for when it does happen, not if.

It’s ok to feel overwhelmed, and it’s not too late to start.

Just Start With One Thing.
